World Series Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
