Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
