Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
